The system consist of a pump and filters which re-circulates the case air through a bed of special chemicals which reduces the amount of certain chemicals in the display case air that cause silver objects to tarnish.

The museum display case is connected to the system using two small flexible hoses generally connected to the base of the cabinet forming an airtight recirculation system; the display case needs to have reasonable air tight seals etc to enable the system to work effectively and to increase the useable life of the active chemicals.

Air is extracted from the display case where it is conditioned before being fed back into the case. By default the whole process takes place with minimal mixing of system air with ambient air.

This complete system which is used in the British Museum helps to keep silver objects in a presentable condition and reduces the need to open cases and handle or clean silver items on a regular bases which in turn cuts down the potential damage or wear to artifacts.
